Transgression

Tonight I want you to do something you’ve
Never done before, under these shadows
Made by my soul, concealing you from the
Gaze of shame, the guilt you fear.  I want you
To do something dangerous with me—give
Over to the hands of others what is
Yours, bending with the ease of release, a
Blur, these musky flowers bold with spring.  Still
The shadow holds us, keeps us safe.  With the
Moon rampaging through the sky, I want you
To watch what I do so I can ask your
Secrets, gather them from the rough where they
Were tossed, petal by petal.  I can touch
Their little shapes, colors—red, yellow, white.
There lay yourself open, as I will for
You, because this cannot be innocence.
This is a crime.  I know you can’t say the
Words so I will say them for you, and tell
You what to do.  Feel your blood begin to
Pound as borders are open, the body
Free to move across the normal.  Tonight
Everything you believe must be cast off.
You can’t look back.  It’s too late even now.
Don’t be afraid.  In my hands place yourself,
Lose hold of your world, close your eyes, breathe deep
And push over the edge.  It will be cold,
At first.  You won’t stay above the water,
But will come out the other side, and there
You will know it’s done by your own free will.
